TOKYO -- Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party elected Sanae Takaichi as its new president on Saturday in a race that went to a runoff against her main rival, agriculture minister Shinjiro Koizumi. She is likely to be voted in as the country's next prime minister during the upcoming extraordinary Diet session.
