TOKYO -- Sanae Takaichi, a staunch conservative who on Tuesday became Japan's first female prime minister, will likely soften her rhetoric as she seeks to stabilize a fragile minority government and hold on to power for as long as possible, according to veteran political scientist Gerald Curtis.
